the flying horse
Based on the urban landscape of London, this JD Wetherspoon pub was recently shortlisted for a 2017 Restaurant and Bar Design Award and is a finalist in the 2017 Northern Design Awards. Copper and dark chair fabrics provide a contemporary, individual pub feel whilst referencing traditional elements through rustic brick and timber. Accessible for all, the pub is true to the Flying Horse concept of 'beauty in the industrial style', with copper arches playing homage to the barrel vaults and brewing vats which produce beer for the pub. As one of the largest airport pub restaurants ever created within a British airport, the space maintains an open feel, helped by lighting techniques such as a mock skylight which emulates the changing daylight throughout the day.
